Ask the Right Questions

Happy Monday! I am a fan of questions. In my line of work, i ask a lot of questions. Whether it is to get accurate needs, or to encourage critical thinking, questions work for me. There is one question though that bothers me, not because it is not necessary but because of its effect on people.  I wish we don’t ask this question anymore so that the answer will no longer matter. “Are you happy?” Yup, that is the question. For me, this is the quickest way to make people “unhappy”. Are you happy here? Are you happy at work? Are you happy about this/that? Are you happy where you are?  Are you happy with how you look? Are you happy now? The list goes on.  I remember being asked this question in one of my past employments and I thought it over so much, blamed all my recent misfortunes in the job, my discontent in life, and even the savings on my bank account. Happy Monday!  I was supposed to post something inspirational, something positive, something I am experiencing.  Instead, I am posting something also equally real.  I just watched a video of a young man who was undergoing depression, trying to explain what he has gone through, was going through and crying over the thought of what still lies ahead.  He said, “When someone takes their own life because they are depressed, don’t say, “sayang” (what a waste). Say, I wish I was there for him, i wish i was a better friend/family.”  He also said, “We are not weak. We are strong. You do not know how much struggle we have to go through just trying to get up every morning, and we have to do it EVERYDAY”.  He also said, to those experiencing the same, “Fight.”  He was found dead, alone, the next day after recording the video.  Why am I posting this on a “happy Monday” post?  Simply because these articles are not here to showcase happiness.
